Earth Nynja Leather is a hand-crafted product line made by myself and my wife. We begin with whole hides of leather, and design, cut, sculpt, dye, sew, and finish everything ourselves, using hand-tools, and an industrial sewing machine. We live and work in Edmonton, Alberta, creating out of a little workshop we have built up slowly over the past 12 years. We have a huge variety of one-of-a-kind pieces and original designs, and our product line includes everything from handbags and wallets to watch straps, belts, buckles, pouches, laptop bags, wrist cuffs, masks, and more! We painstakingly create each piece to be of outstanding workmanship and quality.

We offer an exceptionally durable and beautiful product to our customers.

Our company also strives to be environmentally conscious in everything we do. All our dyes are non-toxic and water-based; what we don't dye ourselves is carefully sourced from responsible, regulated tanneries of good reputation. We use as much of the hide as possible, making small items, such as pendants and earrings, from our scrap leather. We are always looking for new ways to innovate our production process to have as little impact on the earth as possible. This company takes an enormous amount of pride in making beautiful, durable, lasting pieces that we can feel as good about making as our customers can feel about wearing.

Becky Pickard (a.k.a Bea Baptiste) is a self taught mixed media artist with a fever to create. Her process involves collage, transfers, paint layering and drawing. Her works have been described as whimsical, emotional and sometimes, odd. Much of her inspiration comes from old comic books, vintage women's magazines, hymn books, and the reliable hilarity of her two small children. She is fascinated by life itself, and several of her images portray snapshots of women (some are sub-human) in the process of contemplating it.

BlueTree Jewelry by Corly Eggen

Bluetree jewelry was created in 2008, after Corly had her first son, Jack.

Corly has always had an interest in making jewelry and even went to art school, in Halifax to learn the craft. Unfortunately she found the classes too tedious and structured and didn't enjoy it at all, plus she was also very young. Then fast forward 8 years later, when she started to dabble with wood jewelry and did a few disappointing craft shows. In 2007, when Sabrina Butterfly Designs first opened, Corly was the first employee, the store had it's own in house vintage jewelry line and this is where Corly was inspired to start making earrings from vintage beads.

"My love for vintage stuff and jewelry inspired me to take my new skills from Sabrina Butterfly further, and I began to make jewelry at home and do small craft shows. I used primarily vintage materials in the beginning, and then moved to raw brass stampings, swarovski crystals, and vintage beads. That way I can age the brass, find the same materials again, and have a unified jewelry line. My designs are inspired by the early 1900s, flapper dresses, long gloves, elegant ladies with long necklaces and chandelier earrings. When I work on a piece I find myself picturing my jewelry in that time period. Eventually, when my son is a little older I would love to do this full-time, through online sales and better yet my own store selling jewelry and vintage treasures."

Yes the rumors are true... our store survived yet another crazy incident.... from a break in September 2009 to a car crash, this past Sunday, this little train keeps on chugging on.

WE will be CLOSED this week from February 2nd to 6th. Will keep you updated when we reopen.

An elderly couple went out of control in Highlands yesterday afternoon. Hit 3 parked cars the block west of us and then went into oncoming traffic, hitting 3 moving vehicles. After the 3rd moving vehicle they plowed into 3 newspaper boxes and then slid up along side of the store. The main damage is the windows but it also looks like it could be structural and the whole wall might need to be rebuilt... insurance companies came today and are investigating the situation.

No one was hurt, but the driver was sent to the hospital.

my weekend employee and a loyal customer were trapped in the store as the hood of the vehicle had blocked the doorway. It was very scary and shocking for them...

I am a teacher by the direction of my soul and in 2006 I was blessed with another calling from my soul and became a proud momma of a little baby girl. She was all that I could have dreamed of and more.

One day we were out in the back yard she was about 8 months old and my step daughter was talking to her and she said to her "apple" and pointed to our gorgeous tree in the back yard. Then, to my delight and surprise out came "apple" from my little ones lips. I love it! What more could a teacher dream of?

This is where your fabulous designs come into play....a couple of days later I wore the apple shirt with the green piping. I went to pick up my little girl and she said to me "apple" and pointed to my shirt. Yay!

Well Miss Sabrina – from the very first top I bought eons ago – a lovely scoop neck number in a green and yellow apple print – I was in love.

My collection has grown over the years – I now own 5 tops, 7 skirts and 1 dress, along with countless pieces of jewelry bought at your store – and I can honestly say that every single time I wear a piece of your clothing – someone stops to ask me where it is from. I proudly let them know, tell them all the wonderful things about Sabrina Butterfly and then draw them a map to the store if needed J.

Some pieces are worn more than others but my absolute favorite is my doily flowers skirt. I love Amy Butler – my office/crafty space (see below) is inspired by her designs – and I was almost rear-ended the day I drove by the store and saw a skirt in the window made with her fabric! It quickly became mine – and it is a staple in my summer wardrobe.

Thank you for making beautiful things – I can never wait to add another to the collection – perhaps a special order extra long pair of pants is next for me? (hint hint)

Sabrina Butterfly Designs are with me during the glamorous and mundane moments of my life. The fabulous blue skirt will henceforth be known as the Mortgage Skirt, that I wore the day in September when I was granted my first ever mortgage at CIBC for a townhouse in Edmonton. It may have also been my good credit rating, but I'm convinced it was the skirt that got me the mortgage.

Last May I wore the amazing green dress to the Alberta Film and Television Awards and mingled with the stars (or at least some Alberta actors from student films) and had someone compliment the dress in the washroom. I have no idea who she was, but she certainly looked and acted important! I've often joked with my better half (who is an actor and film maker) that when he becomes rich and famous, I will only wear Sabrina Butterfly Designs to premieres.

I'm a librarian at Edmonton Public Library and love wearing Sabrina skirts to the library. Thanks for your designs, and keep up the great work!

Okay so my New Years Resolution (and this may be my resolution for the next couple of years) is to have an entire wardrobe of Sabrina Butterfly designed clothes......I have nine pieces so far. When I heard that there was going to be a Boxing Week sale I made my husband drive all the way from Calgary so that I could go to the sale. I tried on as many pieces of clothing as I could while still leaving some stock in the shop for other customers. My Sabrina Butterfly experience began two years ago when driving past the Rosemont Community Center in Calgary. I noticed the Sabrina Butterfly advert and I went in. I only bought one item, my first purchase was a beautiful dark purple stretch top, which was a tiny bit too small in a size xs but it was on sale and I had to have it, and you know it has stretched a bit and fits perfectly now. I wait patiently for Sabrina to come down to Calgary for the Folk Festival and the Christmas Market and I know that I will always find a few things to compliment my wardrobe. My favourite piece to date was a pair of black lounge pants - which I wore till they fell apart. I feel like the clothes are made for me and and I love the fact that your clothes make me feel great! Sabrina, have you planned your next trip to Calgary?

My husband lovingly calls it my “uniform”. I’d have to agree.

I wore this skirt daily on our two week trip to the Gulf Islands, not to mention almost daily for the rest of summer and fall (the days I wasn’t wearing it, I was probably wearing an orange version of the skirt J).That is a big step for someone who swore off of skirts roughly 10 years prior! That’s right, on a whim, inspired by a love of fabric, I recklessly tried on THE skirt that gave me the courage to expose my legs again. I like to call them my “Woman of the Plough” legs.

SB allowed me to experience something I thought would never happen again - an emancipation of the legs! Honestly, this is a magic skirt. Accessorized with a pair of Merrells, I was set to go hiking, camping, and kayaking, looking like the hippie chick I was trying to be. By throwing on my Mary Janes, I was p-r-e-s-t-o ready in my “going out” gear. Being a totally low-maintenance gal, this is the type of clothing for me.

A year ago a friend of mine was wearing these amazing pants. I asked where she bought them and of course the beautiful pants were purchased at Sabrina Butterfly.(love the name)

A few months later I was looking for something to wear for a wedding. I hadn't been to the store before. I walked in to the friendly and sweet atmosphere in the quaint little building and was in love instantly with this lovely little boutique. I was impressed by the unique design and quality of the clothing. I didn't find what I was looking for for the wedding but I saw other things.

Just before Christmas my colleagues and I were at Culinas for lunch. I said to the women I was riding with that there was this great little shop down the road. In we went. She bought a fun pair of socks. She bought the socks and saw a dress she liked. I saw the most beautiful hat I didn't have the money to purchase the hat because it was before Christmas. I have talked about the hat and the shop to most everyone I know since then.

This a lovely story but the best part of the story is this.

I am heavier then I want to be right now.

When I was with my colleague in the store, I saw a beautiful shawl It was fitted and to tiny for me. it was in the loveliness of this sweet shop that I heard these words.

"What would it feel like if I felt lighter". Not just lighter in weight but lighter like the clothing. Lighter enough to wear this lovely shawl.

It was a gentle way to say to myself I could feel lighter not skinnier not "if I wasn't so fat I could wear that.' It was about the lightness in the clothing that made this lovely line in my head and I have kept the feeling.....

My colleague bought the dress.

I always thought of myself as someone who dressed interestingly. But by my mid-30s, I was starting to have trouble knowing where to shop. What worked for me in my 20s, started to feel less appropriate in the office. Then came the better part of a year in maternity clothes, and a year home with a baby, in sweats & jeans (me, not the baby. well, him too.), and I found myself going back to work at 40, not having a clue how to dress anymore. Little time to shop, no time for dry cleaning & ironing, and an overwhelming sense that somewhere along the way I had lost my sense of style.

A colleague mentioned once this great local designer, Sabrina Butterfly, who sold her clothes at craft fairs. Then I saw a newspaper article about Sabrina opening her own store, and the pictures of the clothes in the store looked, interesting... I went to check the store out, and I found there clothes I could see myself wearing. Clothes with style, that could be worn by a 20 year old and a 40 year old. Clothes that could be thrown in the washing machine AND the dryer, that practically never needed an iron. Clothes that were REALLY comfortable, that dressed up as easily as down, and that mixed and matched easily with other pieces. I found my sense of style again. Thanks Sabrina! I brought two of my SB items to New York with me on a girls trip with my friend. The skirt took a trip to the ABC studios to watch a filming of the View. Another day it went to the Guggenheim Museum. The shirt/dress got a little music and culture as we went to see Wicked. Great clothes that I think make great fashion pieces, especially for a trip to New York City!

My husband Jonathan and I once enjoyed a delicious dinner at Il Portico, an expensive Italian restaurant in downtown Edmonton. Jonathan had won a running race series, earning a gift certificate for a free meal, so we took advantage one evening while my mother was visiting.

We decided that, even though we were going to hand over a gift certificate at the end of the meal, we'd try to look the uppity-fine-dining-foodie part at the restaurant. Here we are, posing as pretentious (and horsy!) sommeliers (complete with tinto in the background), me dressed in a chic Sabrina Butterfly top that was also shown off at numerous Edmonton opera and symphony shows.

OK, so maybe the staff saw through our bourgeois ruse when my mother inquired with small-town innocence whether her pasta dish came with soup and salad.

And perhaps the gig was up when we skipped dessert, having blown the entire gift certificate on entrees and wine.

Never mind. We had our bit of fun that night. And hey, we're still here, unlike the restaurant, which has since closed.

home. It shook gimlets - lots of gimlets. Stood up to small sloshes of

lime cordial, soda, gin. It danced and sang and got up to all sorts of

shenanigans until the wee hours of the morning. Until it found itself

on the bedroom chair, deflated and tired, while I slept the day away.

I simply love my clothes from Sabrina Butterfly, especially the pants. Those fold down waists (Lounge Pant) are comfortable and flattering. I have worn mine through two pregnancies and let me tell ya they went through a work out. In the early months when you have just a little stomach and it looks more like you are gaining weight rather than carrying a baby, those pants made the grade where those waistband pants all failed. I could put on my Sabrina Butterflies and still feel like I had a bit of a figure and be comfortable. Then as the baby grew, and mine did, I gained A LOT of weight, the pants grew to fit as the fold down folded up and hugged my enormous tummy. And then afterwards when the baby was born but my body certainly didn't look like the baby had gotten out - there were my Sabrina Butterfly pants, the only comfortable and stylish piece of clothing I owned and could manage to put on my body.

My babies have grown and my body has slimmed down a touch, and I still wear my Sabrina Butterfly pants. They made it through, a little stretched out and slightly faded from all the washing. If I see another mom wearing Sabrina Butterfly pants, I will always start a conversation by exclaiming I love her pants. That might be considered to be a little weird for some, but not for those who wear these pants, we all love them and are amazed by their versatility, comfort and style.

Well Sabrina, did you expect to see your beautiful linen pants paired with a Gortex jacket?! I have to be honest, but this is how I wear my Sabrina Butterfly Designs clothing. These pants are my 'go to' travel pants. They have been a lot of places. Here they are exploring the beach at the outlet of Athabasca Falls in Jasper National Park with my two little boys. We were camping so they were pulled out of a duffel bag, but given them a good shake and you are sporting high fashion in the wilderness :) Just last week, I wore these pants while walking on the beach in Maui. It seems that my travelling pants tend to bring me to beautiful shorelines with the people that I love. Thanks for your lovely designs that withstand the rigours of life and numerous washings required :)

All my favourite pieces over the past 8 years have, truthfully, been Sabrina Butterfly Designs.

I have so many photos over the past year and half in SBD clothes with my daughter (now 17 months). It is hard to choose a favourite photo. This isn't the best photo, but it shows my very favourite shirt -- still looking good after several years, and after wearing it while pregnant. It was also a very slimming shirt after pregnancy! I have never had a 'bad' day in this shirt (it is too happy a colour for a bad day). The photo also shows a favourite skirt, which I wore at my brother's wedding. This particular photo is at a friends' wedding (Heidi is also a big SBD fan) in Kananaskis on Sept. long weekend, 2009. It was the day before my husband and I took Aven (then 3 months) on her first backpacking trip in the mountains.

Winnipeg Folk Festival here we come!

I am thrilled to be accepted to this festival, as I have wanted to participate for many years. Many other fellow crafters have told me it would be a great festival for my clothing.

We will be at booth #29 in the Hand-Made Village.

Calgary Folk Festival here we come!

Looks like it's going to be another year participating in the Calgary Folk Festival Art Market (7th annual for us). So lovely. I love this festival! The set up is so beautiful & comfortable for all the artisans. We are able to create our own little shop within the trees, on the edge of the Bow River. I love to feel the breeze of the river on the hot festival days and have the sounds of great music whisper through the trees. Even though it's a lot of work to do these shows, they balance out with seeing my great Calgary friends and customers and having some FUN too!

We will be open on the following days:

5th Annual Highlands Street Festival.

The Highlands shopping district will bustle with pedestrians May 29 as the annual spring street festival brings action outdoors. The festival features artisans, crafters, jewellers, face painting for children and market. Visit unique businesses along the Avenue: Mandolin Books, Sabrina Butterfly Designs, La Boheme, Culina, Chickie French Antiques, Wheelworx Art Studio just to name a few...

Bring out the family to enjoy this uplifting community event - rain or shine.

New this year - Wheelworx will host a Community Ceramic Art Tile Project in support of the

2011 Highlands Centennial Beautification Project. They will also be hosting a Silent Auction within their studio with donations from many of the local businesses!
